Measurements: 16.5in H x 5.625in W x 5.625in D
Chinese Qing Dynasty Period, Qianlong blue & white wrapped floral Zong vase. The Porcelain potted in Zong shape vase, thick and large body, squared body, with circle opening mouth and base, raised on shallow foot. Essentially tubes with a square cross-section and a circular hole, having rib molded corners in form of a traditional hair pin along the sides stacked as modules, one atop another. The exterior reserved in celadon glaze ground. All reserved hand painted ornamentations are rendered in clean white underglaze base color which contrast against the cobalt blue fine color. The Exterior decorated with various flowers blooms called flowers of the four season interspersed with fresh foliage and scrolling tendril. The upper open lip and the foot base rim festooned with interlocking geometric pattern, enclosed with double fine blue rings. Flowers of the Four Seasons: In the Chinese culture, specific flowers represent the seasons. winter: Plum Blossom, Spring: Peony, Summer: Lotus, Fall: Chrysanthemum. The health and condition of the flower also conveys meaning in the Chinese culture. Choose only the healthiest plants and flowers with well-formed blooms when choosing flowers for a celebration or to honor someone from China. The shape of the Zong with its square and circular shape could be interpreted as 'the unity of heaven and earth' where the square represents the earth and a circle represents the heaven. The color is balanced, elegant and exquisite. The whole piece is raised on a small disk-shaped foot. The glaze terminates just before the end of the base revealing a dark charred clay. Elegantly and smooth presented upon a carved hardwood stand with archaic ruyi pattern. This piece displays a subtle sheen as the light ricochets across the finely glazed exterior. The Under-base bears a reign mark, a six underglaze blue script characters reign mark, Made In The Years of Qianlong Reign Period of The Great Qing Dynasty.
