Item Details
Description
Southeast Asia, Thailand, Sukhothai Kingdom, ca. 13th to 14th century CE. A delightful pottery vessel in the form of a bird, perhaps a goose, all enveloped in a lovely yellow-green glaze. The charming creature is shown seated with wings tucked and tail flared. Supported by a lengthy neck, its petite head displays bulging annular eyes and a pointed beak. A large conical spout rises from the back of the bird, towering over the animal and ending at a circular rim that opens to the interior of the vessel. Note how the uneven base adds charm to the avian creature, making it appear as though its waddling along as it wobbles. Size: 5" L x 3.125" W x 6.875" H (12.7 cm x 7.9 cm x 17.5 cm)

Provenance: ex-Ashland University Museum, Ashland, Ohio, USA, donated to Ashland University between July 1994 to December 1998
