Item Details
Description
**Originally Listed At $500**

Southeast Asia, Cambodia or Northern Thailand, Khmer Empire (Angkor culture), ca. 12th to 13th century CE. A beautiful stoneware jar displaying an apple-form body, a concave neck, and a flared and lipped rim, all supported by a narrow leg and conical foot. Boasting a lustrous mocha-hued glaze, the ancient vessel features 3 groups of parallel rings - one on the leg, another on the edge of the shoulder, and the last just below the neck - as well as incised motifs of undulating striations that stretch horizontally across the shoulder and body. The bottom half of the leg and the foot are left unglazed and instead showcase a finely sculpted lattice decoration. Ceramics during this period were made on potter wheels which increased pottery production to meet the demand for these elegant vessels. Note how the mocha glaze pools in some areas forming a rich shade of espresso that nicely complements the graceful form of this gorgeous example. Size: 7.125" in diameter x 12.875" H (18.1 cm x 32.7 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full report will accompany purchase.
