Description
Marilyn Monroe "The Sleeping Prince" Original 1956 Warner Bros. Movie Production Costs Statements W/LOA and Photo - This lot includes (4) pages of movie production costs statements for the 1956 Warner Bros. film "The Prince and the Showgirl" (originally titled The Sleeping Prince) starring Marilyn Monroe and Laurence Olivier. The lot includes an original statement on Warner Bros. letterhead dated October 22, 1956 to Marilyn Monroe Productions which includes the salary paid to Marilyn along with payments made for costumes, publicity services, and acquisition of the rights to the play and screenplay, which notably lists the film's name as "The Sleeping Prince" (the original name of the film before it was changed). The lot also includes (3) individual cost summary statements summarizing the production costs for the weeks ending September 8, 15, and 22, 1956. In addition to starring beside Marilyn Monroe, Laurence Olivier also served as director and producer on the film. It is said that he clashed frequently with Marilyn on the set as she often arrived late and did not follow his direction. It was later discovered that she was pregnant at the time by husband Arthur Miller and was not well. The movie was her company's first production and she hoped it would be her ticket out of Hollywood after her refusal to continue playing mediocre roles chosen by the studio's top executives who had little respect for her. This lot is accompanied by an 8"x10" photograph of Marilyn in the role of the showgirl and a certificate of authenticity from a UACC registered dealer.
