Married at the age of 15 (with her parents' permission) to Edward Browning, age 51, merely six months later Frances Heenan Browning attempted to have the union annulled claiming cruelty and bizarre behavior on the part of her husband. It was a case that entered popular culture of the day, earning references in various songs and other aspects of culture.
