Europe, Medieval Period, ca. 12th to 13th century CE. An impressive, hand-carved marble head displaying an anthropomorphic visage with a long, straight moustache. Capped by a jagged coiffure, the fascinating face features bulging, almond-shaped eyes with annular pupils beneath a sweeping brow and a triangular nose. His distinctive moustache presents as 2 bulbous tufts of hair lying perpendicular to his straight nose and tapering at each end. Size: 4.75" W x 7" H (12.1 cm x 17.8 cm); 8.9" H (22.6 cm) on included custom stand.
