Superb Civil War of General George Armstrong Custer Tintype Image Version of the Matthew Brady Photograph
c. 1865 Civil War Era, Tintype of U.S. Calvary General George Armstrong Custer, Very Choice Near Mint.
Exceedingly Rare, Original Tintype Version of George Armstrong Custer, measuring about 2.5" x 4.0" being an important version of a Matthew Brady Photograph. A beautiful waist-up image of General Custer in his military uniform facing right, his cheek lightly tinted rose. There is no actiual wear or detractions evident. We believe that this iconic image was taken by Brady on May 23, 1865. That would be exactly when Custer assembled in Washington DC for the "Grand Review of the Armies."
This historic Photographic image is normally seen being an albumen CDV. That and other far more available Albumen Carte de Visite versions of Custer have auction records to $9,200. The beautiful, near Mint Tintype example offered here is in outstanding Choice condition in its original mount. A truly superb quality, exceptionally clean and vivid, original Custer Tintype photograph that is of “Museum” quality and perfect for display.
