Description: Up for auction is a fantastic imperial tanto dagger sword with 2 wooden boxes and paperwork. The blade itself is in fantastic condition. The habaki was tested and comes up as 14k gold. This piece comes with a corresponding letter indicating that this dagger was made by Sadakatsu Tsukiyama commissioned by the imperial household by Emperor Hirohito for his son’s birthday, however, this seems to be a mistranslation as the actual paperwork states that it was instead made for the occasion of his daughter the Imperial Princess Kazuko Takatsukasa’s birthday on September 30th 1929.A blade just like this one sold for 12,000 dollars in auction. Our estimate for this piece is a modest 4,000 to 6,000 dollars.

Hallmarks:8 character mark on one side of the tang, 11 character mark on the other side of the tang, 4 character mark on the inner box and extensive script on the inner lid of the inner box
