A albumen photo of the U.S.S. Iroquois at Hong Kong, China in 1869. 19th century. 10.25" x 7, mounted on larger card. ************ The Iroquois was commissioned in 1859 and had both steam and sail capabilities. She took part in the capture of New Orleans as well as the taking of Baton Rouge and Natchez during the Civil War. This photo was taken during the Iroquois’ duty with the Asiatic Squadron (1867-1874). *Note: Consignor states this albumen of the U.S.S. Iroquois is from a group of items which belonged to Charles J. McConnell, who served as a naval officer during the Civil War and the Spanish American War. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1861 to 1899, retiring as a rear admiral. The Naval History and Heritage Command (formerly the Naval Historical Center) has a similar photo of the Iroquois in their archives but notes the date and location of their photo as unknown.
