Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Narino, ca. 1000 to 1300 CE. A high karat (testing over 85% - the equivalent of over 20K) gold over copper core nose ring created by the ancient Narino peoples. Gold was the precious metal most treasured by the ancients of the Americas. Its rich yellow hues and brilliant sheen served as a metaphor for the sun, regarded as a source of both light and life. The indigenous believed that gold objects were gifts from the gods to humankind on earth. A wonderful example demonstrating keen workmanship and the shimmering beauty of fine gold. Twisted into an interesting cork-screw shape and would have looked stunning in the septum of the wearer. Size: .75" W x .75" H (1.9 cm x 1.9 cm)
