Description
This is an elaborately decorated vase in the style of fine Moriage or slipware. Thick enamel produces a relief style design with various levels and textures. It is a glorious piece. The elephant handle motif was prolifically used during the first quarter of the 20th century and was made in gilded as well as enameled finishes. Vase, bowls, and vessels were produced with the wonderful elephants. The gilded are the most decorative.
The marks on the base include the artists' cipher as well as the mold number and factory marks and the words hand decorated (in French). The Longwy marks are often very decorative and ornate, which adds to the appeal of their items. 'Decore A La Main - Emaux De Longwy - France' and the numbers '5684-256'.
Provenance- collection of Mrs D. Duffy, Santa Barbara, CA.
