Description
French Art Nouveau Jules Vieillard garniture mantle set. The pieces are decorated in polychrome glaze with cartouches of birds and surrounds with floral patterns on a dark brown background. Highly collectible French faience pottery from the Bordeaux region.
Jules Viellard is known for the intricate hand enameled textured detailing that mimics early cloisonnĆĀ©. Vieillard participated in various exhibitions and won a prize at the 1878 Universal Exhibition in Paris. In 1878, the quality and richness of his exhibition were particularly appreciated by art critics. Maker's mark on underside. Long piece measures 12x 7x6.5 in. tall and two taller pieces measure 4.5x4.5x 9in tall.
