Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero region, Chontal and Mezcala culture, ca. 500 to 200 BCE. A collection of 19 stone beads that are all hand pecked, polished, and drilled for suspension. Most of the beads are a finely mottled greenstone with pink inclusions. The greenstones are in barrel and tubular shapes. Two beads are carved from a jet-black stone, one of which being a preform for a whistle or another tool. The body of the preform is rounded with a narrow neck and a shallow cavity, and a perforation is drilled through the center for suspension. These beads are strung on a modern thread and could be used to create a necklace if not as individual pendant beads. A lovely ensemble! Size largest greenstone bead: 2.8" L x 0.5" W (7.1 cm x 1.3 cm); smallest bead: 0.5" L x 0.5" W (1.3 cm x 1.3 cm)

Chips and nicks to openings of beads. Scattered mineral deposits. All are polished and strung on a modern thread not meant to be worn as a necklace. The thread cord is fraying in areas and should be replaced. These could be restrung together or separate as individual necklaces.
