Description
B15 RARE Philip West ORIGINAL PENCIL DRAWING "Concept Sketch Colour" signed by Philip West. This is an original hand drawn colour final concept sketch by one of the world's finest aviation artist featuring a stunning image of a North American F-86 Sabre, sometimes called the Sabrejet, transonic jet fighter. The Sabre is best known as the United States' first swept wing fighter that could counter the swept-wing Soviet MiG-15 in high-speed dogfights in the skies of the Korean War (1950-1953), fighting some of the earliest jet-to-jet battles in history. Considered one of the best and most important fighter aircraft in that war, the F-86 is also rated highly in comparison with fighters of other eras. Although it was developed in the late 1940s and was outdated by the end of the 1950s, the Sabre proved versatile and adaptable and continued as a front-line fighter in numerous air forces until the last active operational examples were retired by the Bolivian Air force in 1994. This original colour drawing is probably a concept sketch for the Philip West print "Combat Over Korea" and is supplied professionally double mounted and protective wrapped, ready for framing or display as is, overall size is approx. 47 cm x 41 cm (18. 5 inches x 16. 25 inches), visible image / aperture size is approx. 34 cm x 28 cm (13. 5 inches x 11 inches), this drawing has been stored flat, out of the light and is in very.
