Description
This is an outstanding map of Mexico, Texas and California. After gold was discovered in California in 1849, the initial plate was re-engraved to include a vignette of gold panning/washing. Texas is shown with its orginal state borders which include much of today's New Mexico and extends into Colorado. Plenty of settlement, topographical and river details are offered. Two other vignettes show Mexican peasantry and the ancient Mayan ruins at Uxmal. The decorative border incorporates native plants of the region. The map was engraved by J. Rapkin.
