This cotton 1910's/1920's red and white Hawaiian cutout quilt is hand appliqued and hand quilted, with a graphic pattern known as "Quilt for Queen Lili'uokalani," "Fan and Feather Plume," and "Crowns, Kahilis & Fans." >It measures a generous 88" X 94" and is in excellent, sturdy condition, with a couple of small, faint spots and no wear. The hand quilting is outstanding -- the best you'll find -- with dense ripple designs quilted throughout at even 7-8 stitches to the inch. The back is white, the hand-stitched binding is red, and the batting is thin. You can see cotton seed residue inside when you hold the quilt up to the light. Other quilts with a similar color and pattern, including one featured in the Hilo, Hawaii airport, date back to the 1890's.
