Description
Razrukha i Armiya Truda [Economic Devastation and the Army of Labor], a poster by Nikolai Kochergin (1897-1974, Meritorious Artist of the Russian Federation), to text by Dem'yan Bedny. Published by GIZ, Moscow, 1920, 53 x 71 cm.
In his poem, Bedny expresses an ardent belief that “Razrukha,” the economic devastation threatening the survival of the young Republic, will be inevitably overcome by the forces of Free Labor. This belief is clearly shared by Kochergin, who, along with Moor and Deni, must be considered one of the leading Soviet poster artists of the Revolutionary period.
After the war, Kochergin lived in Leningrad, working as a posterist, book illustrator, and occasionally as a stage designer.
