Description
Komsomol, pomogai kooperirovat' bednotu! [Komsomol, Help to Bring Poor Peasants into Cooperatives!], a poster by an unidentified artist (signed in the plate A.N.). Published by Tsentrsoyuz, Moscow, 1927, 28 x74 cm.
The abbreviation Tsentrsoyuz and the acronym VTsPO stand for the same organization: the All-Russian Central Council of Consumer Cooperatives. With regards to poster imprints, it appears that VTsPO was preferred in 1918-1926, and Tsentrsoyuz afterwards, but this is just an empiric observation.
Poster's slogan can be traced to Soviet newspaper articles following the 1924 speech by Mikhail Kalinin at the XIII Comunist Party Congress that underscored the importance of attracting peasants to credit and trade cooperatives. The slogan outlived its original meaning, and was still in use through the early stages of the collectivization period.
