V sberegatel'nuyu kassu, na delo sotsialisticheskogo stroitel'stva [To the Savings Bank! Our Rubles Will Help to Build Socialism] (the English translation is approximate), a poster by Leonid Voronov (1899-1938) and Mikhail Evstafiev (1898-1939). Published by Finizdat, Moscow, c. 1927-1928, 108 x 37 cm.
A very attractive poster in the mixed photomontage manner later perfected by Koretsky; unfortunately, it does not show well on the Internet when scaled to 640 jpg format. Voronov and Evstafiev are often described as film posterists, but in reality, they worked in a wide variety of poster genres. Their posters were included in the important 1933 retrospective Khudozhniki RSFSR za XV Let [RSFSR Artists - 15 Years of Work]. They also illustrated quite a few books, including the first edition of Il'f and Petrov's 12 Chairs.
In 1935, Mikhail Voronov was arrested, accused of being a part of the so called “Kremlin Plot,” and sentenced to 6 years of hard labor; he never came back. It appears that the same fate befell his friend and collaborator.
