A great ivory cane of a stylized dog with hunters. The elephant ivory handle is 3 1/4" high and 1 7/8" at its widest. It depicts a stylized dog head, a demon, flowers, foliage and a hunting scene with men and dogs pursuing a game bird. It is marvelously detailed, and skillfully rendered. There is a 1 1/2" gilded oval collar that has owner initials, on an oval rosewood shaft with a 1 1/8" oval horn ferrule. The overall length is 33 1/3" and the condition is very good with a tiny piece of one hunter's rifle missing, and there is other minor roughness. It is probably German, ca 1850, and it is a very nice carved ivory example. Estimate: $1500-$2500.
