Description
GEORGIAN ENGLISH REPOUSSE STERLING SILVER TEAPOT, round squat-form well with a curved spout and a wooden handle, topped by a hinged lid with shaped finial, featuring all-over repousse and chased designs of flowers, scrolls, and leaves, one side cartouche with engraved heraldry lion sejant erect holding cross, raised on four curved feet with foliate decoration, including a 1949 Customs Declaration label from Great Britain with California as the place of destination. Base with "TR" maker's mark for Thomas Robins and four hallmarks of a lion passant for sterling fineness, a crowned leopard's head city mark for London, a "Q" date mark for 1811, and a King George III duty mark, interior lid with two worn hallmarks of a lion passant and a date mark. Total weight including non-sterling components: 22.38 ozt. Circa 1811. 5 3/4" HOA.
Condition
Very good visual condition with wear and surface scratches, some scattered minor to moderate dents, worn spots to raised decoration, possible repair to lower side of spout, repairs to and around lower terminal of handle, possible repair/reinforcement to top terminal, lid with a section of separation between top and flange which has some slight bending, interior with area of solder at base of spout, various hand-scratches writing to base.
