Description
A carved wooden mask with partly blackened, partly shiny surface, protruding forehead, raised scar designs typical to the tribe. Such masks were traditionally used by the Ekpo society during the planting and harvesting of Yams. Eket peoples, Nigeria, Africa. The mask itself measures 11 inches tall, and 17 inches tall when on professional custom display stand. Provenance: Adam Koryanyi, New Jersey.
