English Breechloading Flintlock Rifle
.64 cal. rifled, 35" round barrel. Patent breech; early breech loading screw plug with side tabs in top of barrel with. Barrel proofs are P in a oval, then a IP outlined in sunburst-style oval, and a V in an oval. Top of breech plug has sighting groove. Barrel held to stock by three wedges. Early flat lockplate marked Tower in the rear, and under the pan with a crown and GR. Thick butt engraved brass buttplate, engraved brass sideplate, brass plate behind tang, brass triggerguard with finial, brass ferules. Walnut stock with high comb, raised carving behind the tang. Very rare breechloading system on a early flintlock rifle.
Barrel and breech have a nice light brown patina. Lock is a nice light brown mixing with some light pitting but sharp overall. Brass furniture is very nice with untouched patina. Stock is excellent with some nicks and dings.
