Second appearance of Superboy. The notion of a youthful version of Superman seems obvious to modern readers accustomed to endless permutations of their favorite heroes, but the concept was novel enough in the Golden Age.
Superman scribe Jerry Siegel pitched the Superboy concept to DC in 1938, shortly after Superman's debut, but DC nixed the idea. Siegel pitched Superboy again in 1940, and again, DC balked. When DC finally went forward with Superboy in More Fun #102, the character became a star, but Siegel received neither credit nor compensation. Siegel sued, claiming DC had no right to use the character since they'd rejected his original concept and story. As always in these cases, Siegel got screwed, pocketing a pittance after the case was settled out of court.
