Eddie Money debut RIAA Platinum Album Award
Eddie Money debut RIAA Platinum Album Award
Item Details
Description

RIAA Platinum Award for Eddie Money's self-titled debut album, which was released on January 20, 1977. The album was certified Platinum by the RIAA on November 13, 1979 for one million copies sold.

This is the album that started it all for New York's Eddie Money (1949-2019). It featured his signature single "Two Tickets To Paradise" along with second hit "Baby Hold On", the latter charting as high as #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The album hit #27 on the Top 200 Albums chart. RIAA data says the album was certified 2x Multi-Platinum by July 6, 1989. See information below about the style of this award vs. the certification data.

Item Highlights:

  • In Excellent condition
  • Second presentation award from around 1998

  • Award measures 17" x 21"
  • Great collectors item for Eddie Money fan

Detailed Item Description: This RIAA Platinum award is a second presentation award that would have been manufactured sometime after 1998 making this award approximately 20 years old. This award is presented to the late Gavin Menzies who was a guitar and drum tech who worked with many major artists.

This data would indicate that a serial number RIAA bar hologram award should show the album to be 2x Multi-Platinum since the album was certified such in 1989 and this style of award was produced on'y from 1998 onward. This means that either this is an error award or that the RIAA backdated the certification date and this award was produced prior to this backdated certification. Most likely it is the latter situation although we have no way of knowing for sure.

The award itself appears 100% original and authentic given the existence of a serial number RIAA hologram, correct components and unopened backing paper with Fitzgerald Hartley manufacturer's sticker. It is in Excellent condition with only a very few minor mars on the frame.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.

As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
