Description
Miocene-Pliocene Period, 23-2.5 million years BP. A Carcharocles megalodon, fossil shark tooth displaying some good polished tooth enamel. 134 grams, 10.2cm (4"). From the collection of palaeontologist R Gledhill, collected between 1930 and 1960; from Georgia, USA. Megalodon means 'big tooth'. The creature is an extinct species of mackerel shark, the largest shark known to have lived and one of the largest apex predators ever to exit.
