Description
20th century AD. A pair of lizards on a matrix, hand-carved from combarbalita, the 'stone of the Andes', the matrix is roughly triangular in shape with a flat base and naturalistically contoured top, the lizards carved in the half round in a naturalistic posture, with detailing to their scales, feet, mouths and eyes. 755 grams, 14cm (5 1/2"). From an old Oxfordshire fossil and mineral collection. Combarbalita soapstone is found only in Chile in the city of Combarbalá. Its colouration is thought to be the result of a volcanic eruption. The stone is a composition of clay, quartz and copper. [No Reserve]
