Measuring 11.25" x 8.5" (sight), No place, dated 1941. Signed and dated "O.W. Fischinger 1941" at the lower left, with an estate stamp on verso. A color oil painting on English silk, mounted on painter's board and matted to the overall size of 18.25" x 15.75". Very fine.
The German-American artist Oskar W. Fischinger (1900-1967) was a filmmaker and avant-gardist of abstract film. He became famous for his art film "Optical poem" (1937). This very rare silk painting was created during this creative period. Provenance: Painting was in the possession of his wife Elfriede Fischinger in 1997, later acquired from the estate.
