Description
A Six-Piece Marshall Fields & Co. Colonial Pattern Silver Tea and Coffee Service, Chicago, IL, circa 1910-1915 Marks: MF & Co., STERLING, COLONIAL, (various) 10 x 9 x 5-1/2 inches (25.4 x 22.9 x 14.0 cm) (tallest) 4252 grams Each of hammered pyriform body with applied B in gothic script, domed covers to kettle-on-stand, coffee pot and sugar bowl with bone ball-form finials; squared C-scroll handles on coffee pot, creamer, and sugar bowl; kettle with squared U-shaped handle and bolts to sides conforming with lyre-shaped burner stand; hammered oval tray with two applied loop handles. This set always makes me smile because I was able to discover who originally owned it. The applied "B"s on each piece stand for Nellie Brown (b. 1898) who was heir to the Squire Dingee Pickle fortune in Chicago. The tea set that pickles built! CV
