Measurements: 14.375in H x 5.125in W x 5.125in D
Chinese Ming Dynasty Period, Jiajing blue and white vase. Potted in a shape of double gourd resemblance, with two bulbous bellies conjoined together, suspending a tall cylindrical neck, square lower section finishing into a slight ovoid neck, with a small opening lip, raised on the square flat base rim. All reserved hand painted ornamentations are rendered in clean white underglaze base color which contrast against the cobalt blue fine color. The main body adorned with some sage playing the flute below the cumulus clouds, beside flowers blooms, dense tree, enclosed with repeating taotie mask and geometric pattern. The upper body decorated with flying crane trough cumulus clouds, vapor and enclosed with repeating taotie mask and geometric pattern. the foot base rim festooned with flying qilin beast above thrashing Lishui wavy water. A characteristic heaped and piled effect, the underglaze grayish-blue concentrates in certain areas, bubbling through the surface of the glaze and turning a deep blue-black. The underside unglazed, revealed the pale-creme ground and dark grayish brown spotted firing marks with edge-cut foot rim. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned. Over all in EXCELLENT condition. Some stress of wear. Natural wood imperfection, wood joint mark, minor scratches and dents. Normal consider ages and wears.
