Description
SIBYL EDWARDS (Canadian b. 1944) A GROUP OF TEN BLACK AND WHITE OP ART EGGS, the exterior of the eggs painted in matte and glossy textures; each derived from abstract geometric expressions applied in monochromatic watercolor paint on eggshells and glass, largest egg height: 2 3/8", diameter: 1 3/4". Note: A whimsical combination of MID CENTURY op art with folk art; the present collection includes a variety of egg sizes, which is an outsider format, typical of folk art. The egg bulges the hand-painted two dimensional mathematical algorithms. The artist's use of bright color or monochromatic is an exercise color theory initiated by artists such as Josef Albers and optical illusion artworks by Victor Vasarely and Bridget Riley during the 1950s and 1960s. Provenance: Personal Collection of Roy H. Van Horn, Houston, Texas
