An English Needlepoint Embroidered Schoolgirl's Sampler
Wrought by Jemima Elizabeth Moule (1790-1878), Dated 1796
the text reads: Jesus permit thy gracious name to stand, As the first effort of an infants hand, and as her fingers on the canvas move, instruct her tender thoughts to see thy love. With thy dear children let her have a part, and write thy name thyself upon her heart / Tell me, ye knowing and discerning few. Where I may find a friend both firm and true Who dares stand by me when in deep distress. And then his Love and Friendship most express / Jemima Elizabeth Moule's Work in the seventh year of her age December 1796.
