Lot of Civil War Letters & Field Order General Sherman. This is a spectacular lot of letters and correspondences from Civil War soldiers to family members and spouses. There is one, "Special Field Order No. 71" that directs troops through Washington given, "By order of Major General W. T. Sherman" (see photos, 5 and 6). That specific letter has an embossed shield in the upper left corner but many of the other letters have some kind of embossment on the top left corner. Dates range from the beginning of the war in 1861,62,63 and near the end in 1865. Included are a few envelopes with stamps. There are over 15 written pages. There is very interesting information about the general activities of soldiers during this time in many of the letters. A treasure trove of information awaits any interested party.

Dimensions of the largest sheet of paper are 13.5 in h x 8.25. Condition is good. There is slight discolorations in the paper throughout. Some of the letters have fading ink but the majority of the letters are in very good condition considering their age. Delicate paper but very little tearing.
