Title: Whip. 935 Grade Silver Royal Coachman's Whip from Coronation of Queen Wilhelmina
Date: Late 19th century. Circa 1898
Medium: 935 Silver, enamel. Silver .935 standard mark
Description: Important Silver and enamel whip. Coachman's Highly Ornate Whip Used During the Coronation of Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands. Hallmarked with 935 standard. JM. Van Kempen and son. Voorschoten 1858-1924. With the inscription "Vanwege HM Koningin Wilhelmina" (Because of Her Majesty Queen Wilhelmina), and the heraldry/coat of arms of Wilhelmina of the Netherlands. Handle unscrews to allow the whip to be replaced. With royal emblems in Silver and royal blue enamel, as well as the W with crown top. Figural handle depicts officer on horseback with whip and saluting (sword for hand is missing). Original whip attachment is in poor condition and needs replacement.
Genre: Historical Royalty.
Subject: Coachman's whip.
Dimensions: 87" long (including broken whip elements, 61" length without), horse handle is 5.5" high
Provenance: Moes Estate. By descent through family.

Condition

Some loss to enamel. Whip needs replacing. Officer saluting Queen is missing sword. Some wear to original gilding. See pictures for specific condition images. Original wood whip is in poor condition and needs replacement. Total estimated silver weight of the whip is 1.5 kilos or 3.307 pounds of .935 grade silver.
