Description
(1840 – 1889) Union brigadier general described by Grant as the army's most promising young officer, leading cavalry with distinction at Five Forks and Appomattox. He also served in the Indian Wars. Very rare black ink signature as a colonel on an 8 x 2.5 in. slip cut from a war date document. Slip torn and repaired by tape not affecting the signature.
