Description
**First Time At Auction**
Magna Graecia, Southern Italy, Lucanian culture, ca. 5th to 4th century BCE. A delightful pottery vessel displaying a form similar to a pelike with a bulbous body, a rounded shoulder, a corseted neck, and a flared rim, all sitting upon a circular base. A pair of twin ribbon-form handles flank the lovely vessel, connecting the area just below the rim to the edge of the shoulder. Red and black pigments adorn the surface, enveloping the handles and rim, as well as forming 3 horizontal stripes on the exterior and 1 more near the rim of the interior. Size: 4.8" Diameter x 5.2" H (12.2 cm x 13.2 cm)
Provenance: private C.Q. collection, Lexington, Virginia, USA, acquired December 7, 2013; ex-Artemis Gallery, Louisville, Colorado, USA; ex-prominent New York, New York, USA gallery, acquired before 2010

Condition
Repaired with restoration over break lines and to one handle. Expected nicks and abrasions throughout, commensurate with age. Otherwise, excellent with nice remaining pigments and good manganese deposits in areas.
