Description
(Disney, 1957) A hand-painted globe created during production of the popular Disneyland television show episode titled "Mars and Beyond." Throughout the episode, viewers are shown stylized renditions of the surface of Mars. To achieve the effect in some of the scenes, hand-painted globes such as this were photographed and depicted on screen, often with an assortment of visual effects and filters. Given the pencil notations throughout the globe and its slight variations in the paint, this particular globe is believed to have been created as a sample for the screen-used globes. Measuring approximately 10" in diameter and 13" tall, the globe is in good used condition with small chips and cracks throughout the surface coating from age. The underside of the base is marked in felt pen as "WDP 1517."
