Description:
Lithographed map in black, red & blue. 26.7x36.7 cm (10¼x14½").
Uncommon and significant map showing the water resources tapped or proposed to be tapped to quench the thirst of the great metropolis on the west coast, whose own supply was sadly inadequate. The map extends from Clear Lake in the north to Tahoe in the east, and to the south of San Jose. The many reservoirs and rivers are shown, and as the legend on the map notes, "Canals are shown by blue lines. Iron conduits are shown by red lines." OCLC lists three copies, at the California Historical Society, the San Francisco Public Library, and the University of California Riverside.
Condition
Old folds, right margin trimmed to neat line, slight loss at upper right corner not affecting any map image; very good.
