Description
WWII. Made from an artillery shell dated 1943, necked, with the rim rolled and a forked bracket attached to the side. Complete with its tongs on spring back, entirely made of brass salvaged from ordnance. Used to carry embers from one room to another to start fire places, as the primary fuel in England at the time was soft coal which is difficult to ignite. Rooms were not heated until needed. Thus, the fireplace in a parlor or bedroom would be ignited for use by depositing embers on the coal and bringing to flame with a bellows. 13" height. Finely crafted. In need of cleaning from storage with a few green oxidation spatters. Only such example we have seen.
