Description
**Originally Listed At $600**

Ancient Near East, western Persia, Zagros Mountains, Tepe Giyan IV, ca. end of 3rd millennium to beginning of 2nd millennium BCE. A beautiful hand-built pottery vessel with a flared circular rim, short wide neck, and sloped shoulder that dramatically drops to form a sharp edge, bulbous body, and rounded yet stable base. Adorned in a creamy shade of beige, the ancient vessel is painted with a light brown design of several intricate registers, featuring (from top to bottom): a thick band along the rim, a horizontal wavy line flanked by 2 striations on top and 3 below along the neck, a geometric pattern of diagonally striped rhombi side-by-side on the shoulder, and a singular undulating line along the body with 1 straight ring on top on the edge of the shoulder and 2 below. Size: 8.5" W x 8.5" H (21.6 cm x 21.6 cm)

Provenance: private southern California, USA collection, acquired before 2000

#159042
Condition
Repair to rim and shoulder (visible on interior, but barely distinguishable on exterior) with repainting on repaired area. Expected surface wear with minor chips to rim, slight chipping/fading to paint, some light pitting, and nicks throughout, all commensurate with age. Otherwise, excellent with nice remaining pigment and lovely earthen deposits throughout.
