Weighs 23.6g Note a very very similar necklace was sold at Christies on june 19th , 2017 realised $50,000.00 Louis Comfort Tiffany was the son of Charles Lewis Tiffany, the firm's founder. With his father's support, Louis developed his artistic sensibilities and, through experimentation and study, became the leading exponent of American Art Nouveau. Louis debuted his signature favrile glassware in 1893. It's shimmering, iridescent qualities proved to be the perfect medium for what he termed his "beetle" jewelry. Based on the scarab, the Egyptian symbol of resurrection and immortality, the spectral qualities of favrile glass practically mirrored the insect's luminescence. Tiffany mounted the scarabs in enclosed bezels, similar to the Egyptian method, to protect their edges from damage. A selection of Louis Comfort Tiffany's beetle jewelry mounted in 18 karat gold was featured in TIffany & Co.'s Blue Book from 1909.
