Beautiful map of New York state from Johnson and Wardâ€™s New Illustrated Steel Plate Family Atlas. This scarce map gives a fascinating look at the state during the Civil War. Excellent original hand coloring by counties. Includes seven inset city plans: Buffalo, Oswego, Rochester, Syracuse, Albany, Troy and Vicinity of New York. Shows transportation routes, especially roads, railroads and canals. Due to the large number of New York subscribers to the atlas business he took over from the Colton firm, Johnson introduced this large folio two-page map of the state in the 1861 edition, and it went through minor updates in the succeeding years. It is an impressive map, and this example is about as good as they get. It is clean with great color, and is centered very nicely on the page. It has only one very tiny edge repair that is not very noticeable. A great map. 16.625 x 24.625
