Description
US Civil War Confederate-assembled rifle-musket after the British Enfield Pattern 1853 , 577 caliber, 55 in long, original leather strap (supple). Has a dark tiger maple stock with incised Roman numerals XLVIII (48, possibly a corps number?). Devoid of any marks except a tiny LG* 0 on lockplate. In very good condition overall, refinished stock at one time. NOTE: The Enfield P53 was a favorite rifle of both Union and Confederate troops and they imported thousands of complete guns and parts from England - this was probably copied/assembled in the South with native tiger maple wood and various other parts.)
