Description
Two Chinese embroideries dating from the 19th century. The first is an orange-ground panel with blue butterflies and flowers. The second features repeating registers of qilin, leopards, and tigers on a blue ground with green tracery.
Dimensions are: the larger embroidery measures 25 inches tall X 26 inches wide, 63.5 cm X 66 cm; the smaller one measures 21 1/2 inches tall X 15 1/2 inches wide, 54.61 cm X 39.37 cm. All measurements are approximate.
Condition: The first embroidery has staining, fading, and pulled threads. The second embroidery has staining and significant areas of pulled threads throughout.
Provenance: From a private collection in Lorton, Virginia. The collector has been restoring antiques for over 50 years in the Washington, D.C. area.
