Description
Group of six Chinese embroideries on silk including one pair round embroideries featuring "Forbidden Stitch" symbols including fungus, bat and sacred ox, 8-1/2" diameter; one other round embroidered silk with floral design, 9-7/8" diameter; three rectangular embroidered silks featuring birds and/or butterflies in garden scenes, one with bats in border, 23-3/4" L x 9-1/2" H to 29-1/2" L x 14-3/4" H. All unframed. Late 19th to early 20th century. Provenance: From the collection of Edward S. Thompson, formerly of Columbus, Ohio and Maryville, TN, deceased 1979, by descent to present owner. Condition
General light fading. Backs loose to one of pair and larger rectangular one. Three stains, largest 1-1/2" x 1-3/4" on largest embroidery.
