Alexander von Humboldt 3rd Person ALS
A 1p autograph letter in French signed in the third person by German explorer and naturalist Alexander von Humboldt (1769-1859), as "M. de Humboldt" in the first line. Tuesday, n.d. N.p. Inscribed on a small paper leaf tipped into a larger cream-colored mount. Expected minor paper folds and an isolated smudge affecting three words of text at left. Isolated stains and pencil inscriptions verso, else near fine. The trimmed paper fragment measures 3.25" x 4.25 while the overall size of the mount is 3.375" x 4.375."
Translated in full, with punctuation silently added to improve clarity:
"M. de Humboldt, bedridden for several days by a minor indisposition, regrets not being able to receive Professor Williams today. He hopes to be able to do so in two or three days and he [sends?] Pr. Williams his affectionate sentiments.
Tuesday."
