Description
An antique engraving on paper after Philip Galle Flemish (Dutch, 1537-1612) original engraving, The Election of Matthias as Apostle (The Acts of the Apostles), 1575. Designed by Marten van Heemskerck Netherlandish (1710-1770). Published by Claes Jansz. Visscher (II), Amsterdam. Signed, titled, marked, and inscribed in the print lower to the center. Philip (or Philips) Galle, a Dutch publisher, best known for publishing old master prints, which he also produced as a designer and engraver. He is especially known for his reproductive engravings of paintings. Graphic art prints and collectibles.
