Fine Jacob Hostetter, Hanover, York County, PA Tall Case Clock. Chippendale/Hepplewhite transitional cherry case. Broken arch pediment with turned urn finials, turned bull's eye rosettes, serpentine side lights, cove-molded waist, lip molded pendulum door, fluted quarter columns. oval sunken panel base with beaded chamfered corners, molded trim with French bracket feet. Eight day movement with painted dial, moon phase with sweep second hand. Jacob Hostetter b. 1754, d. 1831. A pioneer clockmaker of York County, PA. He produced his first clock in 1798 after learning the trade from Richard Chester, the first clockmaker in Hanover. Jacob Hostetter was also a politician, member of the state legislature and a member of congress (1818-1821). In 1825 he moved to Ohio and set up a clock making business with his son in the colony around New Lisbon. Information from "Pennsylvania Clocks and Clockmakers" by George H. Eckhardt. 99-1/4"h.
