[AMERICAN ARTISTS] Autographed Letters from 2 Kentucky Artists,
GOFF, Sudduth. Pair of autographed letters dated Feb. 10, 1946 & April 27, 1955 from a Kentucky-born artist known for his portraits. Letters are addressed to the Botelers of Larchmont, N.Y., formerly of Virginia and Kentucky. Letters indicate a familiarity which reaches back to their Kentucky days; content references NY Society of Kentucky Women, Salmagundi Club, etc. Included is a scarce 4 p. folded flier for artist's exhibit at Arthur U. Newton, Galleries, NYC (1945?) ; creased, soiled and foxed.
Kentucky artist Sudduth Goff (1887-1965) led a half-century career as a painter of society and celebrity portraits. (See Univ. KY site.)
GAITHER, Gant. i p. TLS, dated April 21, 1947; also to Mrs. Boteler, backing out of a luncheon "but I must make a flying trip to California, preparatory to a new musical I am producing in the Fall."
Gant Gaither (1917-2004), born in Hopkinsville, Ky., a producer or Broadway plays and Hollywood movies; probably better known for his second career as an artist, particularly his whimsical Zoophisticates.
