New York Currency
Scarce Upstate New York Private Small Change 2d Note "Constitutional Society of Dutchess County." January 11, 1791 PMG Very Fine-20
New York. January 11, 1791. Poughkeepsie. Two Pence. "Constitutional Society of Dutchess County." Private Small Change Note. PMG graded Very Fine-20.
Fr. Unlisted. A scarce Upstate New York Private Issue note listed in Newman. Signed in text by Edmund Lee as Treasurer, printed by N. Power, Poughkeepsie (NY). It is Uniface with a blank clean reverse, the face black printed with an ornate border design and a well printed and very original appearance with four full margins. The PMG holder mentions a tear, which is a short internal tear near the denomination text. Our EAHA Auction, April 21, 2001 offered Lot 588 a raw EF that sold for $576. This is scarce note, only the second example of this denomination that we have offered.
